Our Children Are Under Attack
Those of you who know me have heard me say how important it is to elect
Democrats to local offices such as the School Boards. With Doolittle's
picks in place in these offices, WE HAVE
A SERIOUS PROBLEM RIGHT NOW, WE MUST TAKE ACTION, YOU MUST TAKE ACTION.
The Nevada Union high school district meets Wednesday
night and our Republicans are trying to force a serious issue onto the
agenda. Backed by Doolittle, Leslie, Aanestad, Keene and McClintock,
the issue is to TAKE AWAY the right of students to leave school for
confidential doctor appointments. This mostly concerns girls who may
have medical issues they cannot discuss with their parents, but it will
affect ALL students. Please read the below, check out the website and
plan on attending the board meeting at Bear River High School Wednesday
night. For those of you who have children and grandchildren in school,
I cannot impress on you enough that the Republican right wing agenda is
active right here in our county. We must stop them NOW. For more
information or to carpool down, call Mary Longmore, the chair of your
County Central Committee at 530-274-7195.
link below to the board meeting agenda item...it looks like it is
something that they are trying to force the issues on...so it should be
early on in the program...

Urgent, email your school board
Below you will find a letter written by Mary Longmore to the Nevada
Unified School District Trustees who meet tomorrow night and will
consider a proposal to deny students the right to leave school to visit
a doctor confidentially. This Republican right wing attempt to take away
a childs right to privacy in situations beyond their control is being
jammed through right now. Yesterday they were making computerized calls
to gather support. You need to try to go to the board meeting Wednesday
night at Bear River High School at 6 pm and show some decent to this
action. Please read the letter Mary sent, formulate your own letter and
let these people know that our children need options. If you can make
the meeting, please go. We need a large crowd.
Here are their email addresses, just cut and paste and send them your
thoughts. DO IT NOW!!

Trustee Nevada Joint Union High School District
Dear Trustee,
As a grandmother with children in the Nevada Joint Union High School
District, I find I am compelled to write to you and the other school
board members on an issue you will be considering . Your vote on this
issue will substantially alter the avenues by which a child may seek
help if they believe they need it.
Let me explain what my concerns are:
1. In the most extreme it is the child or young adult who is the victim
of incest or physical and emotional abuse and the perpetrator is the
parent or guardian .
2. It is the child or young adult who like all children makes a mistake
and through peer or
sibling pressure refrains in disclosing this to their parents because of
the consequences.
This is especially frightening when in the case of a sexually
transmitted disease the young
adult does not seek professional medical treatment in the early stages
and allows (after
initial symptoms subside) the disease to run its course) In a perfect
world the parent
would be sought out and would initiate the medical treatment. But we
must face reality
not all teens live in a perfect world. This is just one example. There
are many more.
Drugs, gangs and violence are some of the others. Remember the child who
doesn’t get
this help can infect others.
3. Another concern is the child in depression who needs to articulate to
someone privately
his inner feelings and thoughts. The statistic on suicide in young
people is a major
concern.
While the concerns articulated above are with regard to the children, it
is a concern of mine that this board, without professional testimony on
the impact to our children, would even consider taking away their right
to privacy or to seek help whenever needed. If this is about parental
control or feelings relating to parent/child relationships wouldn’t it
be much wiser of the board to initiate classes on parent/guardian
relationships? Please give our children your utmost attention.
Sincerely,
Mary A. Longmore
