Navigating who and what to vote for is complex, and we want to make it easier. That’s why we are happy to share our endorsements for the 2024 election.

Our candidate and measure endorsements are aligned with the California Democratic Party. If you don’t see an endorsement below it because the California Democratic Party has not released an endorsement in that race or for that measure.

We also have many opportunities for you to make a difference in the 2024 elections cycle. We hope you will join us in getting out the vote in this critical election cycle.

CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENTS

  • Jessica Morse for Congressional District 3

When Jessica Morse sees a problem, she runs toward it and will not stop until it is fixed. The drive to tackle tough issues has shaped her career choices and commitment to public service.

A fifth-generation Northern Californian, Jessica’s ancestors crossed the Sierra on covered wagons and settled in the Sierra foothills. Today, Jessica and her family remain stewards of these lands, giving her a unique understanding in her job helping protect Californians from wildfire.

In 2019 Jessica was appointed Deputy Secretary for Forest and Wildland Resilience at the California Natural Resources Agency, working on the frontline of California’s wildfire crisis and fast-tracking wildfire prevention efforts. Last year, Jessica was appointed to the U.S. Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission, helping develop recommendations and strategies to reshape national wildfire policies. A true custodian of the land, Jessica has hiked 500 miles of the district on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Prior to her work on wildfire resilience, Jessica spent a decade working in national security for the US Defense Department, the US State Department, and USAID, the humanitarian branch of the State Department. This included a tour in Iraq in 2005, working side-by-side with US troops for eighteen months.

Jessica’s deep commitment to public service drove her to volunteer on the ground in Paradise, CA after the Camp Fire and to create the Fresno Farm Bridge to help struggling family farms stay in business during COVID-19.

March 5 Election Outcome Highlights (as of 15 March 2024)

This is a list of some of the results of the March 5 primary election. The figures were just updated March 12, and there are about 2,000 to 3,000 votes left to count in Nevada County. We will probably end up with about 40% of the eligible voters having voted in this election, according to Corey O'Hayre, the Assistant Clerk Recorder.

Heidi Hall, candidate for Board of Supervisors District #1, has been officially elected since she received 57.24%, which is above the 50% + 1 vote needed to not have to run in the November election. Robb Tucker, candidate for Supervisor District #2, received 51.93% of the votes counted thus far and is also expected to be elected outright.

Measure A (Twin Ridges Elementary School Facilities Upgrade) won with 71.87% yes votes, and Measure C (Nevada City Fire Tax) won with 69.43% yes votes, but Measure B (Grass Valley Fire Tax) is too close to call with 49.60% voting yes and 50.40% voting no.

Jessica Morse came out ahead of Kevin Kiley here in Nevada County with 50,62% of the votes, but lost in Congressional District #3 with only 43.2%. She still moves on to the general election, so we have our work cut out here!

Steve Garvey and Adam Schiff are the top two candidates for US Senate and the Interim US Senate seat at the county and state level with both receiving votes in the 29%- 35% range in all the races. Adam Schiff is expected to be the winner since Democrats far outnumber Republicans in California.
