Welcome
| About Us
2009 was the beginning of a new two year term for the members of the Democratic Central Committee and we have had a good-sized and hard working group all year long. We have had a very active “tween-the-elections” year, keeping the fire going with activities, communication tools, tabling, parading, staffing our fair booth, attending California Democratic Party convention and sending a representative to its Executive Board. In June the DCC sponsored an Ice Cream Social featuring Dean Flores, a candidate for Lt. Governor, in August, our Annual Democratic Picnic featuring Dave Jones, candidate for state insurance commissioner Chris Parker, candidate for state board of equalization, and our two candidates for assembly, Christina Billeci and Mickey Harrington. In November, we sponsored a very thought-provoking “Evening with David Swanson”. One of the new members took on the task of writing a twice monthly newsletter which has had excellent reviews from our email list members. The Outreach Team went above and beyond by setting up tables and numerous festivals, street markets, and events. It also took on the responsibility of our fair booth this year and coordinating our participation in the Fourth of July parade and the Constitution Day parade. The Communications team, in addition to handling all the publicity related to events, wrote letters to the editor, opinion pieces, two brochures, many newsletters and took on the most difficult task of designing and working through the selection project, a new logo. We also set up a special health care committee and participated in many of the events set up during the year by affiliated groups to push for health care reform. Lt. Col. Charlie Brown, retired, received the Jefferson Award for outstanding contribution to the Nevada County Democratic organization for 2009. In 2010 we plan to do all of the above and then some. We are adding a new feature, a First Tuesday Democratic Discussion Group at the Holbrooke Hotel on the first Tuesday of each month between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm. We re hoping that many of you will join us in discussing our common issues and concerns and making plans for our continued growth in Nevada County. Of course, this is election year so we will be campaigning, campaigning, campaigning and hope you will be joining us in those activities.
